The Bokken, commonly referred to as Bokuto in Japan, is a wooden sword used primarily in Japanese martial arts such as Laido, Aikido, Kenjutsu, or Kendo. Instead of using sharp swords such as the Katana or Wakizashi, the Bokken is a much less risky way to train various forms of exercise. Due to the lifelike dimensions in size and weight, the Bokken can be used to realistically perform everything from partner exercises to fixed sequences of movements (Kata). The large Magnum Bokken made of untreated ebony corresponds to the dimensions of a Katana sword and is characterized by its high durability. Treating the wood with oil (e.g., Boker camellia oil) gives it additional protection against dirt and moisture and increases the grip in sweaty hands compared to lacquered wood.
Ebony
Ebony is used to make handles in knife manufacture. Even in the ancient world, the dark wood, mainly harvested in India and Indonesia, was seen as the epitome of fine wood.
